Keyboard is an input device.It is used to enter characters and function into the computer system by pressing button, or keys. It is primary device used to enter text.

Function key is one sequence
of special keys labeled as "F1-F12" that can be assigned a
specific use in order to save a user time. A function key is also assigned as
second use when it is pressed in combination of shift key, alt key, or control
key.
Function is
sometime considered to be a form of hot key.
Some uses for function keys in
windows
F1:- (1) Used as the help key in almost every program, open a help screen when this key is pressed.
(2) Enter CMOS setup
(3) Windows key + F1 would open the Microsoft windows help and support center.
(4) Open the Task Pane.
F2:- (1) In Microsoft Windows, renames a highlighted icon, file, or folder in all versions of Windows.
(2) In Microsoft excel, edits the active cell.
(3) Alt + Ctrl + F2 opens document windows in Microsoft word.
(4) Ctrl + F2 displays the print preview window in Microsoft Word.
(5) Quickly rename a selected file or folder.
(6) Enter CMOS Setup.
F3:- (1) Often opens a search feature for many programs, including Microsoft Windows when at the Windows desktop.
(2) In some programs, after an initial search is performed, F3 will find the next search value.
(3) In MS-DOS or Windows command line F3 will repeat the last command.
(4) In Microsoft word Ctrl + F3 will lowercase any highlighted text.
(5) Shift + F3 will change the text in Microsoft word from upper to lowercase or a capital letter at the begining of every word.
(6) Wondows key + F3 opens the Advance find window in Microsoft Outlook.
(7) In Windows Explorer, start the search function.
(8) Open Mission Control on an Apple computer running MACOS X.
F4:- (1) Open find window in windows 95 to XP.
(2) Open the address bar in windows Explorer and Internet Explorer.
(3) Repeat the last action performed (word 2000+).
(4) Alt + F4 closes the program window currently active in Microsoft Windows.
(5) Ctrl + F4 closes the window or tab in the active window in Microsoft Windows.
F5:- (1) In all modern Internet browsers, pressing F5 will refresh or reload the page or document window.
(2) Ctrl + F5 forces a complete refresh of the web page, clearing the cache and downloading all contents of the page again.
(3) Refresh the list of contents in a folder.
(4) Open the find, replace, and go to window in Microsoft Word.
(5) Starts a slideshow in Power Point.
F6:- (1) Move the cursor to the address bar in Internet Explorer, Mozilla firefox,and most other internet browsers.
(2) Ctrl + Shift + F6 opens to another open Microsoft Word document.
(3) Reduce laptop speaker volume (on some laptops).
F7:- (1) Commonly used to spell check and grammar check a document in Microsoft programs such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, etc
(2) Shift + F7 runs a Thesaurus check on the word highlighted.
(3) Turn on Caret Browsing in Molliza Firefox.
(4) Increase laptop speaker volume (on some laptop).
